Tap (ages 3 - adult)
A graded system of tap instruction from the basic to the most advanced is used to establish a firm foundation.  It covers in great detail the execution and application of all known tap combinations, rhythms and routines.
Tap shoes are musical instruments which when taught properly can make the most wonderful melodies.
I'd like to acknowledge and thank a few of the many tap masters who I've studied with that have inspired and contributed to my success.

Jazz (ages 5 - adult)
There are two types of jazz classes offered at JCDS:
Recreational Jazz is for the student who comes once a week to get exercise, learn basic jazz steps and have fun.
Advanced Jazz is for the serious student that dances more than 2 hours a week.  This jazz class is based on the fundamentals of the Luigi technique.

Classical Ballet

JCDS recommends that all students attend ballet class.  Ballet is the foundation for all forms of dance.  It reinforces body alignment and posture, as well as, development of the feet and turnout.  JCDS teaches the Vaganova method of ballet.  This Russian method focuses on the strength and placement of the back and arms, as well as flexibility and endurance.  Some of the greatest dancers in the world have been trained using this method.  JCDS strives to develop the whole dancer.  We place a strong emphasis on proper placement and terminology, while our classes are designed to encourage the student's creative development.  Our ballet classes can best be described as structured and fun.

Pointe

JCDS encourages students to begin Pointe classes once they have become proficient in Classical Ballet.  Once proficient, it is not recommended that a student begin pointe work prior to the age of eleven.

Lyrical

JCDS recommends that students take Lyrical in conjunction with Ballet.  Lyrical dance combines the fluidity of Ballet with the contemporary moves of Jazz, all set to modern day music.  Our Lyrical classes focus on increasing flexibility and strengthening leaps and turns.  Lyrical class allows the student to most "creative license" of all dance forms.  Our goal is to be able to "hear the music through the movement of the dancer."

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is what rap artisits use in their videos.  It is a form of dance that is related to street dancing and brake dancing.  This is a fun class that is very popular.

Gymnastics (ages 3-up)

Our program focuses on physical strength, flexibility and coordination. For the younger students we incorporate fun using parachutes, hoops and parental involvement such as barrel races.  The older student we concentrate on more physical skills such as the back and front walkovers, handsprings and form.

PomPoms

Our pompom teams orignated 25 years ago.  We started with one team and traveled for competition and participated in parades.  We now have
four different teams.  Our teams participate in the Jeannette Halloween Parade, the Jeannette, Greensburg, and Harrison City Christmas Parades and the Jeannette Community Days Parade.  We have won numerous awards.  We are hoping to participate in this year's Pittsburgh Irish Day Parade.  We won the Judge's Choice Award the last time we marched in that parade.
The classes are for beginner to advanced in a positive learning environment.  Students are placed based on age, experience and individual skills.  We use age-appropriate music and innovative choreography while promoting self-confidence and quick-thinking.  Classes are designed so that your child will experience the following in a 45 minute class:
-Stretching & Flexibility
-Arm movements for Cheerleading
-Splits
-Jumps
-Basic Stunts
Quick-paced recital routine
WE WILL PROVIDE THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR MAKING ANY CHEERLEADING SQUAD!

"The Cheer Place"

The best place to learn all the fundamentals of being part of a cheering team.
Our curriculum:
Jumps, stunts, motions, tumbling skills & dance combinations.
We have trained cheerleaders from the Jeannette, Penn Trafford, Hempfield, Norwin, Greensburg Salem, Greensburg Central Catholic High Schools and middle schools.  We concentrate on more than the "back handspring." "The Cheer Place" is ultimately the finest cheer instruction in the area.
The "Cheer Place" is offered at different times throughout the year unless you request a private lesson or private group.  We have a spring camp prior to tryouts and a 8 week summer camp.  Back walkover & back handspring clinics will be available throughout the year.
Pompoms are recommeded for anyone interested in participating in the "Cheer Place."
